Lead Technical Animator

About The Position

NEP Virtual Studios combines Prysm Stages, Lux Machina, and Halon Entertainment under one banner to provide best-in-class virtual production services around the world. Lux Machina and Prysm stages design, build, and operate state of the art Virtual Production facilities while Halon Entertainment provides Game cinematic creation, visualization, and virtual art department services from concept to final pixel.


The purpose of this position is to help Halon craft a new in-game cinematics team to work with AAA gaming partners. The Lead Technical Animator will be the point of contact for all topics about in-game cinematics technology, coach a team of technical artists and software engineers, and work with production and the animation department to help ease a smooth transition for animation workflow between maya and engine. This role will also work with supervisors to find and offer solutions to complex problems related to animation.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that all animations will work with the client custom tools
  • Be the point of contact for performance and other technical topics for in-game cinematics
  • Troubleshoot problems in the animation pipeline
  • Help to develop new animation pipelines for in-game cinematics
  • Be the main technical point of contact between AAA studios and Halon
  • Research and prototype emerging technology and techniques
  • Innovates measurable improvements to artist technology and workflows.

Requirements

Position Requirements: 

  • 5+ years of experience in the gaming industry
  • Shipped at least one AAA game in a cinematics or animation related role
  • Excellent working knowledge working within Unreal Engine 4
  • Working knowledge with Blueprints in UE4/UE5
  • Strong working knowledge in Maya;
  • Strong working knowledge of animation packages and workflows
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of Rigging
  • Knowledge of importing and exporting animation in UE4/UE5

 

Bonus Requirements: 

  • Knowledge of C++, specifically the UE C++ API
  • Knowledge of Python for Maya and UE
  • Unreal Anim Dynamics
  • Unreal Control Rig 
  • Worked in technical design roles
