About The Position

NEP Virtual Studios combines Prysm Stages, Lux Machina, and Halon Entertainment under one banner to provide best-in-class virtual production services around the world. Lux Machina and Prysm stages design, build, and operate state of the art Virtual Production facilities while Halon Entertainment provides Game cinematic creation, visualization, and virtual art department services from concept to final pixel. 


Halon is looking for talented and enthusiastic Unreal Engine Environment artists with extensive artistic and technical expertise and the ability to create immersive, living, and fully-realized environments. This role requires strong attention to detail, an eye for lighting and composition, and being passionate about creating compelling environments for our Cinematics. This is a remote-work opportunity. 


Job Summary: 

Environment Artists in the Halon Virtual Art Department are responsible for creating and dressing environments from grey-block to photo-real using a variety of techniques. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build detailed 3D environments in multiple different styles per project and art direction needs for use in previs/postvis, virtual production, and game cinematic projects 
  • Create/implement art for scene composition and compelling level layout. 
  • World building, texturing and lighting inside Unreal Engine 
  • Ability to work from reference materials such as photography or concept art  
  • Ability to optimize environments 
  • Package/export assets for delivery to production, stage, or vendors. 


  • 3+ years of game or film industry experience laying out environments in Unreal 
  • Understanding the import/export process to Unreal engine on both Static Mesh components and Skeletal Mesh level (a plus), and being able to troubleshoot problems that may arise 
  • Intermediate to advanced-level user of Maya, Substance, Zbrush, Unreal, Photoshop, Shotgun, Quixel Mixer, P4V 
  • Skilled in hard-surface modeling 
  • Bonus if skilled in landscape creation in a variety of programs including Houdini, Blender, World Creator/ Gaea or similar 
  • Bonus if skilled in modular techniques for building creation, vegetation growth, and general set dressing 
  • Solid team player with strong work ethic and cooperative attitude 
  • Self-motivated and focused worker with good communication and collaboration skills 
  • Good time management skills and efficient development processes, and the ability to apply those principles towards effectively meeting schedules and deadlines
